A very important letter from Casey Kittel, the creator of Planet Innovation:
Everything we spend money on supports particular streams of commerce. Many systems rely on using and abusing people, giving them no healthcare, a poor quality of life and little to no chance of retirement. People all over the globe are forced to work though pregnancy, sickness and old age. Is this what being lucky enough to have a job is all about? Business minds tell us that each individual is responsible for their own quality of life; based on their own intelligence, their own motivation and their ability to fit themselves into their local market. Well, the fact remains: there are less good jobs then there are people looking for them and a good job in Taiwan is probably a terrible job compared to one here in the US. That means that people all over the world are forced to decide between a bad job or no job at all; or maybe they may not even have that choice.
As Americans; people lucky enough to be at the receiving end of so much fabulous consumerism, we need to realize that we are taking advantage of just about everyone on the planet, even ourselves and our planet.
We can not sit here ignoring the consequences of our actions. But at the same moment we need to realize what an opportunity it is for us to be able to undue some of the horrible effects of externalizing our costs from both other counties and the environment.
In fact, Planet Innovation is all about the positive effects we can have on the world as individuals making better consumption choices. As such a big, huge global power we must use it for some real good; more than disaster aid, more than war for peace, or war for profit in the name of democracy, but instead we must make plans that begin to reverse the grim projections for the future.
Lets also try to use some common sense.
There seems to be a ridiculous lack of common sense these days. For one, as societies continue to advance with technology there will be a trend of job loss though downsizing and general higher efficiencies etc. while every year we are projecting the world population to grow in leaps and bounds. We must figure out a way to employ more people using less jobs. I propose all humans to have the right to their individual needs at the cost of society in general, but that is up for debate of course. I would hope most people would realize the inherent flaw in assuming that the corporation will take care of the people. they have no obligation to what so ever, even if their mission statement calls for it. I wish there were someplace between a communism, a socialism and a republic or democracy. I just think it would be great if people didn't have to worry so much about the horrible things that can happen if you don't have an income.
We must also start using the most efficient ways of doing things. this would allow us all to have a lower cost of living and therefore a more comfortable and luxurious way of life.
I could go on and on but the fact of the matter is: We must use our technology to free mankind from our largest problems as soon as possible. Only careful planning and advanced engineering will allow us all to live in peace with each other and the planet. You can participate buy learning to buy [consume] and invest carefully [resposibly]. Also think about this: What if terrorist organizations couldn't think of who or which country to attack because no one was treating them unfairly? For example: what if the we soon become a country of peace and technology instead of war and capitalism? If we all rise to the occasion of peace and technology sharing we could create millions of necessary jobs and build technology and peace all over the globe for the good fortune of mankind in general.
The bottom line? Money, all forms of capitalism is a pyramid scheme that in the end the numbers can not work out. Inflation will always rise, while interest will always surge and recede, causing costs to rise and rise, higher and higher over time until war, revolution, anarchy and chaos prevail and the earth can no longer sustain human life.
I am beginning to come the realization that we need to decide either to make technology free us from our inefficient, earth and people smothering ways or continue to speed down our road of greed and destruction. There is no way we can continue to do things only for our own selfish and greedy selves and not contribute to our own self destruction.
Please, stop buying products that drain the earth of its resources. Stop buying everything that they're selling you. Start buying products that promise they are 100% sustainable; meaning, mankind could continue using the product for millions of years without causing irreversible damage to the planet or its inhabitants. Please consider what the world would be like if everyone lived like you live. Please start making a difference today.
Please imagine what it would be like to have factories that are built in virtually uninhabitable areas of the planet and yet made to automatically, with little or no manpower, make the very things we need to survive. picture large floating barges out at sea that are designed to block areas of the ocean that absorb too much energy from the sun - a process that is directly responsible for excessive rainfall, hurricanes and other sever weather, and simultaneously can grow food buy passively making fresh water, gathering nutrients from ocean life such as fish and using solar energy for raising protective walls and covers.
think of how grand life could be on earth if we take technology to the limits. right now we are only messing up everything with it, just think about how great it will be to be of the generation that realized we are actually in the stone age of technology and sets things up for the future. We actually live in an age that like no known age before, could actually develop a healthy, thriving society that does not require even 1% of the manpower that has made past societies work in the past.
